
Giovanni Bassani
Giovanni Bassani currently advises the Chair of the Supervisory Board of the ECB on legal and strategic issues. Previously a senior lawyer in the ECB Legal Services, he deals with prudential regulatory issues and was the lead lawyer in the ECB Options and Discretions project in 2015–16. He also worked in Banca d’Italia, the Bank of England and the UK Financial Services Authority. Giovanni is a graduate of the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ and holds an LLM and a PhD in European Banking Law from King’s College London. He is the author of various publications on European Banking Law, including the first in-depth monograph on the legal framework applicable to the Single Supervisory Mechanism (Kluwer Law International, 2019). He is an Honorary Fellow with the School of Law of The University of Edinburgh.
